AquaAtlas Bulkwater Supply Project

Atlas Dam

In 2007, the Atlas Dam’s infrastructure and distribution pipeline were installed and the water treatment plant rehabilitated to service the needs of the Carmen Copper Corporation’s (CCC) Mines Project and the mining community. Part of the water supply has been delivered to Barangay DAS, the community adjacent to the Carmen Copper Compound, through the Toledo City Water District.

Given that the Atlas Dam can supply more water – approximately 100,000 cu.m. per day – than the quantity required by CCC and Barangay DAS, AquAtlas has been evaluating the commercial viability of the following revenue-generating projects:

  • Bulk water supply to Metro Cebu, including the adjoining cities. The feasibility study has been completed and the proposal is being reviewed by the Metro Cebu Water District;

  • Bulk water supply to Toledo City and nearby communities. Feasibility studies are ongoing; and

  • Power generation utilizing the water in the Atlas Dam. Preliminary study indicates that pumping water up to a storage basin located 400 meters higher than the Dam during off-peak power usage periods, and then releasing the stored water quickly back into the Dam during peak hours, can generate substantial electricity that can be sold to CCC and/or to the National Power Corporation Grid on commercial terms. Detailed studies are being conducted to confirm the economic viability of this project.
